Barbara Schett is one of the most successful athletes Austria has ever produced and Austria’s highest-ranked female tennis player ever. She reached the Top 10 in both singles and doubles. Barbara Schett made her Tour debut in 1990 at age of 14 years 6 months receiving a wild card into qualifying for the Citroen Cup in Kitzbuhel. During her career she reached the finals of 6 WTA Tour singles events, winning three of them. In doubles she won a total of 10 WTA Tour doubles titles and was a finalist in 9 other tournaments.

In 1999 she was a quarterfinalist at the season ending WTA Tour Championships for the top-ranked players on the Women’s Tennis Association at New York’s Madison Square Garden. Her best Grand Slam singles performances were reaching the US Open quarterfinals in 1999 and the round of 16 at the French Open (2000, 2001), Wimbledon (1999), US Open (2001) and the Australian Open (1996, 1998, 1999, 2000). Other career highlights include reaching the quarterfinals at the Grand Slam Cup in Munich, the semifinals in doubles at the US Open (1999, 2004) and the Australian Open (2000). In 2001 she was a finalist at Australian Open mixed doubles partnering Joshua Eagle. Barbara Schett represented Austria from 1993 to 2004 in the Federation Cup and at the Sydney 2000 Olympics in singles and doubles reaching the quarterfinals in the singles.

At the 2005 Australian Open she announced her retirement from the WTA Tour. That year she was awarded with the Grand Decoration of Honour in Silver for Services to the Republic of Austria from the Federal President Heinz Fischer.

Shortly after her retirement from professional tennis Barbara started an international business career. Among other business activities she is stil a popular celebrity endorser and brand ambassador representing various brands and companies. Besides that she works as an expert and presenter for Eurosport, the N°1 pan-European TV channel, reporting live from Grand Slam Tournaments in Melbourne, Paris and New York and is a columnist for austrian newspaper Tiroler Tageszeitung.

 

On 6 July, 2007 she married former Australian professional tennis player, Joshua Eagle. On 28 April 2009 they gave birth to a son named Noah.
